A refrigerant leak is one of those problems that sneaks up on you. Your system keeps running, but the cooling just gets worse and worse. By the time most people call us, their AC has been struggling for weeks - sometimes longer. The leak is almost never in an obvious spot, which is exactly why accurate diagnostics matter so much.

Here's what the process actually looks like. We use an electronic refrigerant leak detector to scan the evaporator coil, valve connections, and refrigerant lines - the areas most likely to have a problem. That glowing red indicator on the detector tip isn't just for show. When it lights up, we know we've found the source. No guessing, no throwing refrigerant at a system and hoping for the best.

Once we've pinpointed the leak, we get to work on the fix. We also hook up a Fieldpiece SMAN manifold gauge to verify system pressures are reading correctly after the repair. That's the step a lot of shortcuts skip - but we don't move on until the numbers confirm the system is holding properly and performing the way it should.

Refrigerant leaks aren't just a comfort issue. Running a system low on refrigerant puts serious strain on the compressor, which is one of the most expensive components in any AC or heat pump system. Catching and fixing a leak early can save you from a much bigger repair bill down the road. That's true whether you have a traditional central AC, a heat pump, or a mini-split setup.

We do this kind of detailed diagnostic work on every call. No cutting corners, no band-aid fixes. If your system isn't keeping up, there's usually a reason - and we're trained to find it.
